Noscapine is a benzylisoquinoline alkaloid from plants of the poppy family family, without painkilling properties. This agent is primarily used for its antitussive (cough-suppressing) effects. It is also found in heroin as an impurity from the production process.
Identified in Sweden: 7-chloro-5-(2-fluorophenyl)-1,3-dihydro-1,4-benzodiazepin-2-one (norfludiazepam). Norfludiazepam is a benzodiazepine and is structurally related to the internationally controlled substance diazepam.
